I had one for about a year and really tried to enjoy shaving with it. The end result was that I liked looking at it more than using it. The thick safety bar really limited the angles available for shaving and apparently that kept me from really getting along with my former Lady Streamy. I'm thankful that I had one but also glad it is being loved and well taken care of elsewhere now.
Well, so after a bit of digging, and some generous help by our very own, and very venerable, Paul, I scored this. Including stropper, fully functional strop, and box. It has enabled me to cut down my shaving utensils for travel to a Thäter travel brush, a tub of Meißner Tremonia shaving soap, and that EverReady Streamline.
It is an aggressive razor. More so than any other SE I have tried, including, but not limited to, the OCMM.
But unless you have a massive hangover from sharing a few bottles of Mongol vodka with the head of counter espionage, it is safe to use. Yes, it does take some getting used to: the angles are limited, the weight of the razor is to be taken into account, and if you are not careful, there will be a spurious toothbrush in your SotD picture.
But other than that, I cannot think of any other razor that will give such consistently outstanding shaves. Mind you, three of them. Afterwards, the blades become entirely useless for me, unless I switch razors, and re-use them in, say, an OCMM.
Beyond that, the EverReady Streamline is the razor. Close, smooth, and, more than anything, beautiful.
Well, they say that the chase is better than the catch, and they are mostly right. Not so in this case.
A bit of background. I have roughly a decade of experience with cut-throat razors. They are nice. But I always disliked shaving with one at 04:30am. So a few years back, I started to look for viable alternatives. I discovered single edge razors, and they worked. They worked almost from the beginning. And then they started working really well.
Now, I own a few single edge razors by now, and have tested (and given to friends) a considerable number. But the Streamline has always intrigued me. I have always liked its looks. So when I finally managed to buy one for reasonable money, I was rather anxious whether it would actually live up to the expectations performance wise. I did. It actually exceeded them.
The only issue I took with mine was that its case was broken. And that the plating was coming off a bit underneath the cap. So I started looking for a perfect one. And about two weeks ago, one popped up on a local auction site. And it looked mint. Or at least minty, although that term really should not exist.
Either way, I set a completely unreasonable maximum bid, and started praying.
Long story short, I won. Do not ask about the price. It was - and is, and will be forever - utterly unreasonable. I could have got five replated OCMMs for that price, or something like 25 decent ones. Was it worth it? Not from a price/performance point. But I wanted the box, and the strop, and plating fully intact. And I got that. So there, here it is...
The box will need some light cleaning. Denture cleanser works great for that, by the way.
Yes, they came with a cardboard thingy in the lid.
Here is the cardboard thingy.
Four blades intact and packaged.
Strop still in its original cellophane wrapping.
Razor and the fifth blade. It does not shave. Yet. But I have a cunning plan...
So there it is. I love it. It is a rather nice razor. Bit of personal advice, if you will, get one without box, strop or stropper. The stropping mechanism will not work with modern blades, anyway, and the old blades are inferior - and impossible to get. Get one in decent shape below €50, have it professionally replated, and enjoy. It is a great, albeit extremely aggressive, razor. Not worth five times or more as much as an OCMM, but nice.
Congratulations - that is one beautiful Streamline set!
I wondered who got that one (I was not the 2nd high bidder, so don't blame me for driving up the price ). Glad to see it was a fellow TOST member.
The price was high, but I don't think that it was unreasonable - sets in that condition simply don't come around very often. In addition to being virtually unused, the large lather cutouts indicate it is the less common early version.
I don't know if I'd call the Streamline "extremely aggressive" though.
Off topic: G+ is a dead loss. I can't log into it. It just goes to an unused business page and I simply can't get it to go to my personal page. All computers, home, work, all browsers, all devices. I got your email though, and replied ...

carlfrommo: Hey guys. Last minute question here. What shot size should I use for flying reindeer?
Dec 24, 2019 22:11:29 GMT -6
ordinaryshaver: You want to use 3 1/2 in magnum lead shot, in size T. Problem solved.

ordinaryshaver: No steel, too light and use an extra full choke, unless you have a good blind setup

carlfrommo: Well, last night was a failure. I had one shot, and I didn't lead the red-nosed one enough. I think I ended up shooting the driver. Might have gotten him in the leg. Hard to tell because he was wearing red pants and coat.

carlfrommo: He turned his sled away and landed on the roof two blocks down. Out of range for a second shot. I did notice he walked with a bit of a limp though. He shouldn't be coming in my yard anyway.

mrconklin: Last time I hunted waterfowl. 2 3/4 shells were standard and the cool kids were starting to play with the 3 inch, but most guns weren't made for them. Steel was also just starting to be mandated on Federal and State land.
