I am considering acquiring a PAL Adjustable injector razor (the one in brushed metal with its black plastic handle underside).
Has anyone any first-hand experience and feedback about this particular Injector (btw, are they Clones of the Schick Adjustable?). I would like to know if they are anywhere near as good in shave performance as some of their older (and more widely used) Injector cousins are please?
In advance theank you for any information you might have on the topic.
The PAL adjustable came out in mid-1962 and the Schick adjustable not til 1965, so it's not a clone of the Schick per se (although the PAL injectors in general came into existence when ASR took advantage of the expiration of Schick's patents on the injector design).
I have and use the PAL adjustable. I have, but haven't used much, the Schick adjustable. The only reason I haven't given the Schick a good tryout is that injectors aren't my first love (love you Valet), so I haven't gotten around to it. I get a nice shave from the PAL on the middle setting. I use a Schick G8 also. I am slightly more pleased with the G8 on average because it's a bit more manuverable.
There are widespread reports of quality control issues with the PALs (most notably the bevel on the head being machined off of square). Mine is fine and trouble free. Just a warning to try to give your potential purchase a good going over (at least visually).
Injectomaniacs will add to the discussion, I'm sure.
Thanks for your input, gents, much appreciated. I have decided against a PAL Adjustable and have instead settled on a Schick M1 Adjustable, gold-plated (strangely enough, as I am usually not too much in favour of those..). Will provide details (and pics) in the respective thread.
I've seen a lot of info on the PAL Adjustables and felt skeptical...sounded like a hit or miss situation, but heard enough good stuff to take a shot at finding one that still functioned decently just to have around...
Lady Luck came through, turned up a cased model in outstanding condition.
The 5 level adjustment mechanism functions well,I'm able to clearly see the safety guard extend and retract.
For my first shave I set the adjustment dial right down the middle on 3...at that setting it felt about as mild as a Shick Hydro-Magic.
I've set the dial on High " #5 " the last couple of days,it's performance at the highest setting feels a bit more aggressive than my Schick G 4.
The shaving angle wasn't at all the same as Shick's usual blade cover almost flat against the skin setup...
I lift the end of the PAL's handle about 20 degrees upwards, somewhat similar to the shaving angle of some DE razors.
I can't help that I love the looks of this razor and knowing that felt the need to evaluate it with an especially critical eye but the darn thing has done nothing but perform solidly and will always have a home with me.
I still feel a bit like when I was a teen-aged kid and I was talking with a bunch of other kids who had off-road motorcycles. They were going on about all the fun they were having, talking a little technical talk about the benefits of this bike over the other, yet I just felt totally unable to contribute - because I didn't have a bike and had no idea really what they were experiencing.
As here - where I have no injector adjustables at all and just enviously 'sit in' and listen. : \
Darn this never ending quest for razors!!!!! Oh well, I can look forward to at least a few more years of exploring new razors that I have yet to acquire. One day I will be able to smartly respond in such an injector thread!!!
So many razors - so little time! : )

I've shaved 3 times over the past 7 days with the PAL Adjustable...
I enjoyed 2 fantastic shaves and one that was barely average with a "5" (high) setting while over-tired and utilizing a poor shaving angle, the shave was "ok" but with a surprising amout of irritation.
I've shaved with it on 3 (middle range) and 5 (highest setting) and obtained quick clean effortless results with both,I originally thought I'd leave it on high "5" all the time, but there's a nice sweet spot to be found on "3".
The PAL Adjustable on "3" for me remains similar to the shave I get from a Hydro-Magic and that's a compliment.I can see using this razor on the "3" setting for several shaves and then walking the dial to 4 and eventually 5 as my blades reach the end of their usefulness.
I'm ok with the handle as long as my fingers aren't covered with lather and slippery, with frequent use I suspect I'd find subtleties in my grip to take advantage of and a solid comfort level.
Just got my PAL adjustable in the post this morning. It looks like a razor version of a B-52 bomber. Where does the PAL adjustable fit in the timeline? After the Injectomatic but before the Schick M? Anyway, it gets such mixed reviews that I'm intrigued to try it...
Thanks to , Mr. Flay, for this. "The PAL adjustable came out in mid-1962 and the Schick adjustable not til 1965, so it's not a clone of the Schick per se (although the PAL injectors in general came into existence when ASR took advantage of the expiration of Schick's patents on the injector design).
Shaved with the Star Trek PAL for the first time this morning and was very disappointed - it was very demanding about angle, unlike the intuitive Schicks and Injectomatic. And once I'd got the right angle it just delivered a rubbish shave on settings 3, 4 and 5. It looks so good but performs so poorly! Anyway, someone is very generously PIFing me a Schick dial, so we'll see how that measures up...
What a shame! I absolutely adore this razor, for looks, and I'm always keeping my eye open for one to add to my collection. It appears to have very much the same shape and curve as the Personna ... which, yes, demands a very specific angle which is nothing like Schick.
Try is again in a few days. Often your brain rewires from the experience and your sense memory adjusts to pick it up more intuitively later.
