I saw these blades being sold on the Bay. Does anyone know which kind of blades are they?
The seller says they're made by ASR. At first I had thought of an earlier version of the Gem by Personna, but the "009 RD" marking makes me think of carbon blades instead, since the s/s that I have are marked "Gem" on one side and "Stainless" on the other. Any clue?
A quick googling of the item number on the package indicates that these are carbon steel blades. Since all of the places selling them are tool supply type places that talk about using them in paint scrapers, I'm guessing that they are not suitable for shaving.
All I'm finding is that these are "regular duty" and no information about the cutting edge. I have used 009RD blades, which are carbon steel, .009" thick and "regular duty" and they were fine for shaving, but they were not in this kind of packaging and it was known that they were two (or three) faceted.
I don't think these will be any good.
When finding blades suitable for shaving, ensure that they are "triple faceted". This means the edge has been shaped three times to provide a strong, yet very sharp edge. Single faceted (which I think these are) do not have to be as sharp for their application.
Think meat cleaver versus Chef's knife vs straight razor. While you can hone a Chef's knife, you'd still pick the straight razor for shaving.
