My first impression of Krampert's Finest Bay Rum Acadian Spice soap was how much it reminded me of Cella - soft with a heavy sweet scent and a very rich lather generated rapidly by our lovely Devon water. Since Cella is one of my all time favourite soaps, we were off to a good start!
An examination of the ingredients list shows coconut oil and glycerine which explains the silkiness of the lather, as well as how moisturised and conditioned my skin felt afterwards.
Of course this is scented with Bay Rum not almonds, and it's a sophisticated scent with a bit of complexity to it and some citrus notes matching the aftershave of the same name.
My knowledge of American history has also been improved by this soap, and I now know that Acadia was an 18th century colony of New France which incorporated Maine where Krampert's products originate
The Acadian Spice tub weighs in at 6oz and there's a generous gap between the soap and the top, a nice touch which allows you to really swirl the brush around but keep the lather contained (one of my perennial messy problems) or even to lather on the puck.
The thing I like most about this soap is the flexibility in lather consistency which it allows.
By varying the amount of water, the lather can range from thick creamy cushion to very slick indeed and everywhere in between whilst always maintaining its integrity.
This suits me perfectly since I shave with DEs, SEs and str8s and look for lots of cushion for DEs and injectors but lots of glide for wedge blades and str8s.
If I had any criticism of KFBR Acadian Spice it would be that the scent isn't strong enough but apart from this it's definitely a new favourite!
Again, soft water area, so a mere handful of swirls in the tub with a PurTech knot and onto my face. The large tub does a good job of not souring the labelling with overflowing lather and building up the lather either in a bowl (which I've done just for fun) or on the face, easily achieved.
The scent is super!
The tingle is bob-on!
Love it! Well played, Brian - a perfect accompaniment for my own aftershave, 'Shibden Spice'.
As posted in SOTD, today I had the chance to finally try KFBR Acadian Spice soap. Though I was coming from almost a week of using MdC, which is actually my no.1 performer, this excellent soap did match all the expectations I had in terms of lather, cushion and slickness and even did exceed it in terms of scent....as I wrote, this is how I always imagined real Bay Rum would smell like...rich, deep, spicy and complex. Bravo to Brian!

Yes Mike, at the moment you have to buy it from USA. I have it only because a friend of mine was in the USA and brought it to me, otherwise, to receive it, I would have had to pay, apart from the normal postage charges, the custom duties, which here in Italy sometimes can be ridiculously high.
But I hope that Brian's plans of having the already famous KFBR produced and distributed in Europe will materialize soon.... (see also here)
Some of the ingredients I use, as we've found out, are "exotic" ingredients in Europe, so supply of raw materials has been difficult to put it mildly. But they are working through the problems and it's projected that saleable production will be available sometime in April/May. That's if all of the planets align with the right stars. But it was last scheduled for autumn and that didn't happen, so none of this is carved in stone. Initially it's thought that they won't have the soaps, only the after the shave products.
